Devices

I will just start by saying, IT’S OK! Yes, when you have an autistic child at home sometimes you will rely on a device to distract them. I cannot tell you how many times Trys was melting down. I start a familiar show on her tablet and she calmes right down. The familiarity helps her regulate. After a few minutes we can resume whatever we were trying to do before she became dysregulated. Other times I have to take care of something quickly at home, I put Trys beside me and let her play on her tablet beside me. It allows me take care of my stuff and keeps her entertained and safe. Don’t feel bad if you have to use a device to keep your family functioning. It is a tool we can use to keep moving forward.
